Griffith, 79, of Water Street, Jennerstown, D.O.A., Jan. 9, 2001, at Somerset Hospital. Born May 4, 1921, in Westover. Son of Harold C. and Ella M. (Kelly) Griffith. Preceded in death by parents; first wife, the former Ruth Wright; foster parents Stewart and June (Griffith) Friedline; infant daughter Penny Darlene and brother Gerald. Survived by wife, the former Mildred A. "Peggy" (Randall) Shawley; children Maxine, married to Tom Kelly, Ligonier, Connie B. Kinzey, Boswell RD, and Gerald J. "Pooch," married to the former Sue Ann Diehl, Jennerstown; step-children Donna A., married to Ted McClintock, David A. Shawley, married to the former Denise Eaglehouse, and Bonnie E., married to Richard Krouse, all of Boswell RD; foster-son Frank Koval of Somerset; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A member of Jenner Township Baptist Church, Jennerstown Volunteer Fire Department and Boswell Post #461 American Legion. 1940 graduate of the former Boswell High School. Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. Past president and co-owner of Griffith Transportation. Mechanic for the former Friedline's Garage, Jennerstown. Owner of the former Griffith's Service and Repair, Jenners. Current mayor of Jennerstown and past president of the Jennerstown Borough Council. Enjoyed traveling throughout the country and spending time with family. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell, where a service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Curtis K. Hamel and the Rev. Joseph M. Beer officiating. Interment, Jenner Township Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Jenner Township Baptist Cemetery in care of Alice Roberts, Somerset Pike, Boswell, Pa. 15531. Graveside military rite by Menoher Post #155 VFW.
