Griffith, 88 of Somerset formerly of Stoystown died May 14, 2002 at Siemon Lakeview Manor Estate. Born Feb. 25, 1914 in Blackfield son of Griffith and Sarah (Watkins) Griffith. Preceded in death by parents, wife the former Eva Giffin, an infant daughter, twin great-grandsons, brothers Llewelyn and William, and sister Grace Koontz. Survived by these children: Mary Eileen married to Robert Darr, James married to the former Cvijeta Skabic, and Allan married to the former Stacy Stroke, all of Stoystown. Grandchildren: Rodney Darr, Robin Blair, Mandy Miller, Jimmer, Anthony, Jason, Jeremy, and Justin Griffith. Great-grandchildren: Jessica and Brock Blair, Bryan, Andrew, Stephen, Matthew, and Katie Darr, and Taylor Miller. Also survived by a sister Catherine Wheeler of Gainesville, Fla., and a sister-in-law Mary Ellen Weimer of Stoystown. Retired after 20 years from U.S. Steel, Johnstown, and a former Somerset County, coal miner. Member of Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown where he taught Sunday School for many years. Honorary Life Member of the Stoystown Fire Co., having served as President and Chaplain for many years. Former Somerset County Firemen's Association Chaplain. Helped to organize Somerset County Oldtimers Baseball Association where he served on the board and was one of the first group of inductees into the Hall of Fame. Served as president of the Turnpike League of American Legion Baseball and was inducted into the state Hall of Fame. He was instrumental in youth baseball in Stoystown for over 50 years, and helped organize the Forbes High School Football Boosters in 1960. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown. Rev. Walter L. Startzel officiating. Interment odd Fellows Cemetery, Stoystown.
