Griffith, 66, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Meyersdale, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 28, at the Miami Valley Hospital. He was striken while at work at the Triangle Park and died a few minutes after arriving at the hospital. He was a native of Meyersdale, Pa., and a resident of Dayton for 21 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and of the Long Wagle Tribe of Redmen. He was caretaker of Triangle Park and an employee of the city for 15 years. Before moving to Dayton, Mr. Griffith was employed by Alex H. Johnson for 14 years as setter in the monument business. He was a member of the Meyersdale Fire Company, serving in every department of the fire company and was Fire Chief for two terms. In earlier life he was a coal miner. He was a highly respected citizen and had a wide acquaintance in Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia through his connection with the Johnson Memorial Company. Surviving are his wife, Anna; five daughters and two sons, several sisters and brothers and nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at the home by the Rev. Donald R. Brownwell. Interment in Memorial Park cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, May 5, 1949
