GROFF Frank Leslie Groff, for many years a prominent merchant of Somerset, died Sept. 16th, following an operation for a throat ailment in the Somerset Community Hospital. He was born April 16, 1886, and spent the earlier years of his life in Berlin. For many years he conducted a department store of ready to wear merchandise in Berlin, and shortly after the outbreak of World War I opened a similar store in Somerset. A brother, Robert L., was his partner, until about 1919, when the partnership was dissolved and Frank L. Groff entered into partnership with George Schenck. They conducted a business in Somerset until about 10 years ago when the partnership was dissolved and each thereafter conducted a department store of his own. Frank L. Groff was a member of the Somerset Rotary Club, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Berlin Trinity Reformed Church and the Berlin Odd Fellows lodge. He was president of the Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Somerset. Surviving are these brothers and sisters: Fred, John, Robert L. and Harry W., all of Berlin; Mrs. Harold Musser, Rockwood; mother of Dr. Harold Musser of Somerset and Mrs. William Walker of Akron, Ohio. Funeral services were conducted last Friday afternoon at the Johnson Funeral Home, Berlin, Rev. John Bethune, pastor of Berlin Trinity Reformed Church and Rev. D. S. Stephan, former pastor, officiating. Burial in the Berlin I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, September 24, 1942
