She was born Jan. 7, 1905 in Confluence, a daughter of the late William R. and Elizabeth (Colborn) Stairs. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clifford E. Groff. She is survived by a son Elwood and his wife Maya, of Arnold, Md.; grandsons Mark and wife Janine of Rockville Center, N.Y. and Douglas and wife Ann of Bedford, N.H. Seven great-grandchildren: Kevin, Brian, Kirsten, Jeffrey, Tim, Hilary, and Melanie; brother, John Stairs of Keystone Heights, Fla. and brother-in-law Merle Stahl of Stoystown. She and her husband Clifford lived in Clairton, Pa. for 45 years where they were members of the Wilson Lutheran Church. Clifford worked for U.S. Steel and Mary Lou was the first head librarian at the current Clairton public library. Upon retirement they moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. until Clifford's death in 1986. Friends will be received from 2 until 6 p.m. Sunday at the Humbert Funeral Home, Confluence where a service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Mason officiating.
