Gumbert, born in Somerset Township, Feb. 7, 1861, died January 8, 1944, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bertha Suder, Berlin. He had been in failing health for several months but had been bedfast only two weeks. He taught school in Somerset Township for ten years and served on the school board in Brothersvalley Township for two terms. He married Balinda Ream, daughter of Charles Ream. They lived very happily together for 51 years until Mrs. Gumbert died two years ago. They lived on a farm about 1 1/2 miles north of Berlin for 50 years. Mr. Gumbert is survived by a foster daughter, Mrs. Bertha Suder, and one grandson, Wayne Suder, in army training in South Carolina. Funeral services were held at the Johnson Funeral Home, Wednesday at 2 p.m., in charge of Rev. M. F. Foutz, pastor of the Wills Lutheran Church of which Mr. Gumbert was a member. Interment in the Berlin I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, January 13, 1944
