Gumbert, 74, of Pine Hill, Berlin R.D. 3, died Wednesday morning at his home. He was a retired merchant and had been prominent in business and community affairs in Brothersvalley Twp., for many years. He was born May 2, 1872, in Brothersvalley Twp., a son of Henry and Annie (Brant) Gumbert. He had been ill for three years. Surviving are his wife, Lillie (Hauger) Gumbert; one daughter, Mrs. R. Lynn Krape, Bellefonte, and two sisters - Miss Sadie Gumbert and Mrs. Russell West, both of Berlin R.D. 3. One daughter, Cleda, preceded him in death in 1927, and one son, John, died in 1923. Mr. Gumbert was a member of the Lutheran Church at Pine Hill, the Masonic Lodge at Meyersdale, Knights Templar commandery at Johnstown, and Jaffa Shrine, Altoona. He was also a member of the Berlin IOOF lodge. He was school director in Brothersvalley Twp. for 12 years and for many years was a director of the Meyersdale Fair Association. Funeral services will be held at the Gumbert home at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Berlin IOOF Cemetery in charge of Walter A. Johnson & Son, Berlin morticians.
