Gurley, aged 46 years, who lived alone in a bungalow at Bowling Green, a suburb of Cumberland, Md., on the McMullen Highway, near the Cumberland Fair Grounds, was stricken with paralysis on April 18, and lay helpless without aid for eight days until his plight was discovered by neighbors last Saturday afternoon. He had almost perished from cold and lack of food and water. He was taken to Allegany Hospital, Cumberland, in a very feeble condition and died there on Sunday. He was a brother of the late Thomas W. Gurley of Meyersdale and of Oscar C. Gurley of Cumberland. Funeral services were held at the home of the latter, 519 Louisiana Ave., at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning, Rev. Dr. H. T. Bowersox, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland, officiating. Meyersdale Republican, May 1, 1930
