Born March 4, 1916, in Wilson Creek, Somerset County, a son of the late Stanley Joseph and Laura (Zeleski) Gurzenda. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Michena Fanale, who died Nov. 30, 1998; brothers, Andrew and James Gurzenda; and sister, Jean DiGivoanni. Survived by a number of nieces and nephews; brother, Ziggie Gurzenda, Woodhaven, N.Y.; and sister-in-law, Marie Gurzenda, Somerset. A member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. U.S. Army veteran of World War II 6th Armored Division, having received three Bronze Battle Stars, European African Middle Easteran Theater Ribbon, Purple Heart, Victory Ribbon and American Theater Ribbon. Retired electrician for Gulf Oil Research Center in Pittsburgh, retiring in 1978 after 23 years of service. Member 55 Speeders, FOE Aerie 1801 and Disabled Veterans. Friends received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Somerset. The Rev. Monsignor Samuel J. Tomaselli officiating. Committal Somerset County Memorial Park. Vigil for the deceased will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
