He had been under a doctor's care. Born in Meyersdale, he was a son of the late Harry and Labina (Brown) Habel. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Garrett, in 1995; and two sisters: Emma Mankamyer and Althea Philson. Formerly of Roseville Road, Lancaster, he was the husband of the late Ora (Gauntz) Habel. He is survived by a granddaughter. Mr. Habel graduated from Franklin & Marshall College with a bachelor's degree in political science. He was an agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for more than 40 years. Following retirement, he worked at Adelphia Seafood. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Habel was a member of Church of the Apostles United Church of Christ, Washington Lodge 156, Free & Accepted Masons of Quarryville, Pa.; the Harrisburg Consistory and the American Legion Post 603, Quarryville.
