  HAMER
  
    Merritt M. Hamer, 80, of Somerset died Sept. 9, 1993, at Somerset
  Hospital.  Born Dec 25, 1912, in Johnstown, son of Charles and Susie
  (Miller) Hamer.  Preceded in death by parents and half-brother, Homer. 
  Survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Ruth Shaffer, and these
  children:  James E., married to the former Kay Weigle, Mechanicsburg;
  Barbara, married to Robert DeFosses, Gainesville, Fla.; grandchildren
  Pamela D., Timothy and Trudy Hamer and Jill E. Tallman.  Brother of Luella
  Shaulis of Hubbard, Ohio, and Charles Jr. of Friedens RD 1.  Retired from
  Pleasant Avenue Builders Supply.  World War II Army Air Force veteran. 
  Member of Friedens Lutheran Church and Somerset VFW Post 554.  Family will
  receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home,
  Stoystown, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. James
  R. Ling officiating.  Interment, Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  Memorial
  contributions may be given to Somerset In Touch Hospice.
