Hamilton, 88, of Cumberland, Md., died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ludwick, in Cumberland. He was a son of Myles and Alice (Hademan) Hamilton. A lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren, he was called to the ministry in September 1901 and was ordained as an elder in 1919. He served as pastor of Middlecreek Church of the Brethren for two years and organized the Rockwood Church of the Brethren. While serving there, he was called to be field director of Religious Education of Western Pennsylvania for 12 years simultaneously served Middle Pennsylvania District in the same capacity. Rev. Hamilton was instrumental in establishing Camp Harmony and directed activities there for seven years. He served as pastor of the Living Stone Church of the Brethren in Cumberland for ten years, as well as other congregations. He was a writer and contributed frequently to publications of his denomination. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Glen Bruner, Rockwood RD 2; Mrs. Beatrice Ludwick and Mrs. Alice Merrill, both of Cumberland; also eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held last Thursday afternoon in Middlecreek Church of the Brethren, with Rev. Fenton Platter officiating. Interment in Rockwood Cemetery. Meyersdale Republic, July 12, 1973 [H0125]
