HAMMOND Mrs. Anna Charles Slicer Hammond of Cumberland, died June 14 in Baltimore at the home of her niece, Mrs. J.E. Barnhart. Death was due to a cerebral hemmorhage after an illness of several years. She was born in Grantsville, Md., Sept. 1873, the daughter of Nathaniel and Louise Slicer. Her father built and conducted the Slicer Hotel, corner of Center and North Street, Meyersdale, the site now occupied by the post office building. April 18, 1899, she became the wife of Gabriel E. Hammond of Meyersdale. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond conducted the hotel for several years after the death of Mr. Slicer, until they moved to Cumberland where Mr. Hammond died in 1934. Only near relatives surviving are her niece, Mrs. Barnhart, and a nephew, Nathaniel Friedline of Meyersdale. Funeral services were held in the Price Funeral Home Friday afternoon by the Rev. Edwin C. Nagle. Interment was made in Union Cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Beamer, Barron Shipley, John Cover, Dr. Wm. P. Cover, Hubert Lenhart and Robert Shumaker. Meyersdale Republican, June 23, 1949
