Handwerk, 88, of Berlin, died Sept. 22, 1999, in Meadow View Nursing Center in Berlin. Born April 15, 1911, in Brothersvalley Township. Son of Frank and Ada (Baer) Handwerk. Preceded in death by parents; his first wife, the former Edna Martz; second wife, the former Alma Boyer; daughter Geraldine and sister Mae Gray. Survived by sisters: Ruth Barkley, New Jersey, and Hazel Walker, Hadley; stepchildren: Bernadine, married to William Webreck of Berlin, and Donald Blough, married to the former Kay Hillegas, of New Freedom. He was a retired manager of Snyder of Berlin, World War II Army veteran. Member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin; Berlin American Legion and VFW; Meyersdale Lodge 554, F.& A.M. Past president and past chief of the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with Rev. Melvin A. Kirk Jr. and Rev. Ralph G. Landis.
