HANDWORK Garrett County, Maryland Samuel E. Handwork, life long resident of this section, died early Sunday morning, at his home at Jennings, after several months illness. His death was not unexpected as hope for his recovery had been abandoned some weeks ago. Mr. Handwork was born at Jennings, Oct. 23, 1866, and was aged 73 years, 5 months and 21 days. He was a son of Jeremiah and Susanna Bittinger Handwork, natives of the Jennings community. His entire life was spent here where he engaged in operating a small farm. About fifty years ago he married Miss Sarah Wiley, of this section. She and their four children survive, namely Mrs. Ruth Lohr, near Swanton, Mrs. Lucretia Miller, Fairview, Oscar and Ernest Handwork, Jennings. Also surviving are one brother, Solomon Handwork, two sisters, Mrs. Henry Platter and Mrs. John Miller, all of this community, and seven grandchildren. At an early age Mr. Handwork united with the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, April 16, with the Rev. J. E. Walls, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment was in the family burial plot on the home place, under the supervision of William Winterberg, local mortician. Meyersdale Republican, April 18, 1940
