"Puppy" Hanes, 84, of Stoystown RD 1 died Oct. 21, 1996, at Somerset Hospital. Born Sept. 20, 1912, in Hyndman. Son of William and Mary Ruth (Penner) Hanes. Preceded in death by parents, daughter Roberta A. on May 27, 1980; son Cpl. Robert Lee Hanes killed in action in Vietnam on July 2, 1967; former daughter-in-law Therese (Horner) Hanes, sister Wilma Hancher and brothers: William, Carl, Harold, Walter and Robert G. Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Survived by wife the former Olga A. Kozola, and these children: Richard W. of Boswell RD 1; Thomas D. of Stoystown RD 1; Howard N., married to Patricia Lepley of Boswell; Heide and fiance Terry Akin, Baltimore, Md. Five grandchildren: Richard, Earl, Jessica and Tyler Hanes, Shelly (Hanes) Walker and Jennifer (Hanes) Smith, and six great-grandchildren: Chloe and Kennedy Hanes, Samantha and Heather Walker and Bailey and Noah Smith. Brother of Wendall of California, Howard of Ohio and Shirley McKay, Somerset. Member of the UMWA and the Jenner Rod and Gun Club. Observed 53rd wedding anniversary on July 10, 1996. Retired coal miner, construction worker and PennDOT employee. Friends were received Tuesday evening and will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Rev.
