Hanft, 72, retired Garrett County school teacher, died Friday, June 10, in the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was the son of the late Charles C. and Anna (Oester) Hanft and was born at Cove, Md., January 15, 1877. He married Miss Chlore Cullers, who died in 1924. Surviving are two sons, Clarence Hanft, Cleveland, O., and Arthur Hanft, Cresaptown, Md., and four grandchildren; also the following brothers and sisters: George and Henry Hanft, Cove, Md., Peter Hanft, state of Wash., Lewis Hanft, Salisbury; Arthur Hanft, Cumberland, A.A. Hanft and Mrs. Catherine Miller, Grantsville, Miss Mary Hanft, Orlando, Fla., and Mrs. Elizabeth Mallan, Keysers Ridge, where he made his home. Funeral services were held in the German Lutheran Church, Cove, Md., Monday afternoon, the Rev. M. E. Franks, pastor, officiating. Pall-bearers were Walter Hanft, Rudolf Mallan, William Oester, Glen Kamp, Homer Reichenbecher and Elmer Hanft. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, June 16, 1949
