Hanft, died at the home of her son, William, Cove, Md., Sunday evening, April 16. She was paralyzed Monday, April 10 and was unconscious till her death. Mrs. Hanft was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Johannes Swartz, natives of Germany, who emigrated to America with their two young daughters and located in the Cove settlement between Keyser's Ridge and Bear Creek. Mrs. Hanft spent nearly her entire life in the Cove Community, where she was well known. Her husband died 22 years ago. They had 12 children, six of whom survive, namely: John of Grantsville; Mrs. Conrad (Louise) Oester, Mrs. Barbara Gardner and William, Cove; Mrs. John (Cora) Friend, Acosta, Pa.; Mrs. David (Margaret) Glotfelty, Salisbury, Pa. Twenty-five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Cove German Lutheran Church, Rev. H. H. Fichensher officiating.
