Born Jan. 28, 1916 in Salisbury, he is a son of the late William Ernest and Amanda (Slabaugh) Haning. Also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Becky Nellessen. Survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Ruth Horchler, whom he married Nov. 28, 1942 in Fredericksburg, Va.; four sons, Jerry (Shirl) of Salisbury; Robert of Woodstock; Sam (Sue) of Crystal Lake, Ill.; Feeman (Brenda) Salisbury; three daughters, Susan (John) Nellessen of Hurley, Wis.; Mary Madura of Bradenton, Fla.; Jane (Dave) Mohapp of Gurnee, Ill. and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Retired soil conservationist for the US Department of Agriculture and previously taught agriculture in high school. Veteran of the US Army serving in World War II. Loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening, and stamp collecting. Graduate of Penn State University. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, the time of service, at the Newman Funeral Home Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Hwy., Salisbury, with the Rev. Ruth S. Kershner officiating.
