HANING William Ernest Haning, aged 51 years, 11 months and 5 days, died at his home near Springs, August 12, from a malignant tumor from which he had been a sufferer for two years. An operation in the Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, in May, proved unsuccessful. He was a son of Adolph and Louise Stiepher Haning, both of Saxony, Germany, and was born September 7, 1879. He was married October 16, 1904, to Miss Amanda Slaubaugh, and is survived by her and their four sons, Norman, of Glen Rock, Pa.; Ray, of Belle Center, O.; Paul and Samuel, and one daughter, Alta, at home; also by two sisters, Mrs. Ed Detweiler, of Wellman, Iowa, and Mrs. Theodore Johnson, of Cumberland, Md., and a half-brother, Lewis Eichorn, of Clarence, N.Y. Mr. Haning attended the public schools of Somerset County, Pa., and also normal school. He taught in Somerset County, Pa., and Garrett County, Md., for several years. For nine years he was employed by the U.S. Government as a rural mail carrier on Route No. 1, Elk Lick (now Salisbury) Pa. He later purchased the D. W. Maust farm and engaged in farming until his health failed. The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Springs Mennonite Church which was crowded to capacity, as he was widely known and highly respected. Rev. S. G. Shetler of Johnstown and Bishop J. A. Ressler of Scottdale, Pa., officiated. The pallbearers were Rev. G. D. Miller, Rev. Roy Otto, Rev. M. B. Miller, Rev. Robert Dayton, and Deacons Myron Livengood and Jacob Kinsinger. Interment was made in the Springs Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, August 20, 1931
