Hanks, 81, of 126 West Church St., Somerset, died Nov. 6, 1986, at home. Born Feb. 6, 1905, in Somerset County, son of the late John W. and Miriam B. (Mowry) Hanks. Preceded in death by his wife, the former LaVerne "Peg" Paxton; son, Robert; and brother, Edgar. Survived by sons: R. Gene, married to Gloria Mezack of Glen Burnie, Md.; and Barry L., married to Mary Christner, Somerset; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was one of the founders of Hilltop Floral Company, Friedens, in 1929. He was a member of the Friedens Lutheran Church and charter member of Friedens Volunteer Fire Company. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, with the Rev. James R. Ling officiating.
