Hare, Jr., 73, of Coolidge Drive, Ocean City, N.J., died Dec. 15, 1980 at Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point, N.J. Born Feb. 27, 1907, in Meyersdale, son of the late Fred P., Sr., and Ellen Alice (Machin) Hare. Preceded in death by first wife, Mary Alice George, and second wife, Dorothy Daugherty; also by two brothers and two sisters. Survived by these children: Phyllis, wife of Fred Miller Sr., Somerset; Mrs. Harriet Weigle of Somerset, Fred P., III, of Longport, N.J.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Brother of Jack of Somerset and Mrs. James (Mary Alice) Reesman of Johnstown. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Somerset, Somerset Lodge No. 358 F and AM, American Legion, and Somerset Volunteer Fire Department. In 1941, Sen. Hare was elected to the Pennsylvania State Legislature, where he served three terms except for the time when he served in the Armed Services with the U.S. Navy. In 1946, he was elected to the Pennsylvania State Senate, where he served two terms. A graduate of Meyersdale High School in 1925 and attended Susquehanna University for one year, he transferred to Ashland College where he obtained a B.A. degree in education. He also held an M.A. degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh and had done further graduate work at Penn State University. He retired as executive assistant secretary of the P.S.E.A. Friends will be received at the Richard H. Hauger Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, where service will be conducted Saturday at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. H. James Meyers officiating.
