He was born Feb. 3, 1923, in Garrett, a son of the late Clenan Cecil and Nannie (Murray) Hare. He is preceded in death by brother, Kyle Hare and sister Alma Andrews. He is survived by wife, Dorothy (Engle) Hare and daughter, Amy, wife of John Gilbreath, Fort Hill, and granddaughter, Amanda Harkcom of High Point, N.C. He is also survived by sisters; Eva Gress of Davidsville and Joyce Bolden of Connellsville. He was the retired postmaster of Berlin and was a member of the American Legion Charles E. Kelly Post 112. He possessed a passion for music and played in many string bands and also had an avid interest in carpentry and woodworking. He was a member of St. Paul's UCC where he was a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the M. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home. He will lie in state in St. Paul's UCC Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m., time of service. The Rev. Bruce Ashlock officiating. Interment will be held in the St. Paul Cemetery. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home. 01/15/2004Ê Daily American ROBERT OWEN HARE February 3, 1923 January 15, 2004 Robert Owen Hare, 80, of Rock Station Rd., Meyersdale, died Thursday, January 15, 2004, after battling cancer, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, Md., ending a marriage of 58 years. Born February 3, 1923, in Garrett, he was a son of Clemon Cecil Hare and Nannie (Murray) Hare. He was preceded in death by parents, sister Alma Andrews of Cumberland, Md. and brother Kyle Hare of Ashboro, N.C. He is survived by wife Dorothy Elaine (Engle) Hare; daughter Amy Gilbreath, wife of John Gilbreath, Fort Hill; and granddaughter Amanda Harkcom of High Point, N.C.; also two sisters: Elva Gress, wife of Dr. William Gress, Davidsville; and Joyce Bolden, Connellsville. At the age of 12 years old, Bob started delivering special deliveries by bicycle and receiving mail from the railroad, which began his career with the United States Postal Service in Meyersdale, where he was carrier, clerk and assistant postmaster. He retired from Berlin after serving as postmaster. He served his country in WWII as a Sergeant in the Army Air Corp in the Phillipines for three years, where he was radar crew chief. He was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast until the age of 79. Bob was an accomplished and devoted musician of many different stringed instruments, a skilled craftsman in carpentry and woodworking, a faithful member of the St. Paul Wilhelm United Church of Christ where he served as Elder, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher. Services were held at St. Paul UCC on Saturday, January 17, and interment was in the St. Paul Cemetery. He will be sadly missed by family and his many close friends. 1/22/2004 New Republic
