Born Dec. 1, 1915 in Jones Mills, he was the son of David Daniel and Merilla (Vought) Harkcom. His sons, Lyn and Alfred Jr. and daughter, Janice Lubelski, died previously. He was the last of 18 children. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marie (Fogle); daughter, Sandra McDade of Pacifica, Calif.; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Harkcom retired in 1978 as a foreman for Lamb Electric after 35 years of service. He was a member and past Worshipful Master of Rockton Lodge 316 F&AM in 1971, the High Priest of the Kent Chapter 193 RAM in 1973, a member of the Tadmor Temple of Akron, Ohio, and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, Ohio. He also belonged to the Men's Garden Club of Kent and the Kent Civil War Club, and was a member of the Kent United Methodist Church. Visitation and services were held Sunday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent with Rev. Kay Dunlap officiating. A Masonic service was also held at the funeral home. A graveside service was held Monday at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent with the Rev. David Palmer officiating.
