Jr. 02/21/05 Daily American Fred E. Harlan Jr. 84, Ligonier, Died Feb. 19, 2005, in the Excela Latrobe Area Hospital. Born July 11, 1920, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Fred E. and Laura McLean Harlan Sr. Survived by his wife of 45 years, Millicent Hay Harlan, Son, Fred E. Harlan III, Ligioner and a sister, Martha Kaufman, Upper St. Clair. Prior to his retirement in 1972, he had been employed as a metal-lurgical engineer for U.S. Steel for over 32 years. He was a World War II veteran having served as a navigator in the Army Air Corps. Member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, The American Society for metals and a Fellow with the American Association for the advancement of Science. A 50-year member of Dormont Lodge 684 F&AM, a former Chapter Dad for the Order of Demolay, a member of St. Clair Royal Arch Chapter 305 in Carnegie and a member of the Syrine. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 P. M. Monday at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Chapel Inc., 144 East Main St., Ligonier. Service will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday at the Covenant Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Robert D. Cummings officiating. Entombment will follow in the Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the (Deacons Fund) of the Covenant Presbyterian Church. Ligonier Lodge 331 F&AM will hold services in the funeral chapel 7:30 P.M. Monday.
