HARLEY HARLEY - December 13, 1890: Bessemer, Alabama. David J. Harley, of heart disease, aged 43 years, 8 months and 9 days. The subject of this notice was born in Bedford, Kent County, England, April 4, 1850. He came to this country at the age of twelve years, homeless and without a friend. Undaunted by poverty or his tender years, by thrift and application, he succeeded in mastering the rudiments of an education and was all his life, during his hours off from toil, a close and enthusiastic student. He learned his trade very thoroughly, became master of it, and it rewarded him by giving ample support to him and his the remainder of his days. He came to Meyersdale about 1872, and in 1877 was united in marriage with Miss Martha E. Breig. The union was blessed with four children, Martha E., Margueretta, David J., and Ambrose, aged respectively 12, 9, 5 and the infant, 10 months. He was a kind, affectionate husband and father, charitable to all, ever ready to lend a helping hand to the needy. He was employed by the Savage Brick Company, first at Keystone nearly 7 years; then at Hyndman 9 years, and about 2 1/2 years to his death at Bessemer, Ala. May he rest in peace. "This world is all a fleeting show, To man's illusion given; Smiles of joy - tears of woe, Deceitful shine, deceitful flow, There is nothing true but Heaven. And false the light on glory's plume, As fading hues of even; And Love, and hope, and beauty's bloom Are blossoms gathered for the tomb, There is nothing bright but Heaven.
