Barron Drive, Jennerstown, died Aug. 27, 2001 as a result of a trucking accident. Born March 8, 1961 in Somerset. Son of Fred M. and Virginia R. (Shaffer) Harned. Preceded in death by father-in-law James R. Thomas. Survived by parents of Somerset, wife the former Patricia A. Thomas and loving daughter Amanda Dawn Harned at home. Brother of Lynnlee F. married to the former Jennifer Merical of Nampa, Idaho, and Brian H. married to the former Elizabeth Lind of Chili, N.Y. Also survived by mother-in-law Shirley (Peterson) Thomas of Boswell RD and numerous nieces and a nephew. A member of Bethany United Methodist Church. A 1980 graduate of Somerset High School and a graduate of Diesel Institute of America, Grantsville, Md. A U.S. Navy veteran. Employed by Shaffer Trucking, New Kingstown, Pa. Observed 14th wedding anniversary Jan. 17, 2001. Also an avid hunter. Friends received from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Rev. Barry K. Ritenour officiating. Interment, Horner-Mt. Tabor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Somerset Trust Co. in care of the trust department, Box 777 Somerset, Pa., 15501 where a fund for Doug's daughter Amanda has been established.
