Born Oct. 14, 1919, in West Salisbury, son of Dewey and Agnes (Murray) Harris. Preceded in death by parents; infant daughter and grandson, James F. Harris III. Survived by wife of 56 years, the former Freda B. Pound; daughter, Barbara, married to Donald McIntosh, Boswell; son, James F. Jr., married to Margaret Murphy, Buxton, Maine; four grandchildren, Robert J. and Linda Jean Taylor, James F. Harris IV and Katrina Charlene Harris; four great-grandchildren, Sheldon R. and Shawn Taylor, Alexander Soik and MacKenzie Singleton; sister, Myrtle Jean, widow of Roy Fulton, Jerome; and brothers, Dale E. married to Frances Elliot, Concord, N.C.; and Donald W., married to Arlene Kopar, Harrisburg, N.C. Attended the former Boswell High School. Past member of the former Jerome Lutheran Church. Member of the Ali Ghan Shriners, AAONMS, Cumberland, Md.; the Valley of Portland Consistory, Portland, Maine and the Meyersdale Lodge 554 F&AM. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War with over 20 years service, having retired in 1959 with the rank of Ensign. Served aboard the following U.S.S. vessels: Franklin D. Roosevelt, Compton, Kearsarge, Yorktown and Ticonderoga. Recipient of numerous service medals including Asiatic Pacific, China and Korean Service, European-African-Middle Eastern and the World War II Victory. Friends received from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Pastoral leader Larry C. Hoover officiating.
