Harris, 55, of Grahamsville, N.Y. died Feb. 26, 2000 in Westchester Medical Center. The daughter of George C. Harris and Evelyn M. Michael Harris, she was born Oct. 12, 1944 in Pittsburgh and grew up in Somerset. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Barbara G. Harris. She is survived by a sister Susan L. Anderson, a nephew Brent Anderson, and a niece Amanda Anderson, all of Allentown, Pa. She was a resident of Grahamsville since 1965 and was a music teacher at Ellenville Elementary School. Mickie dedicated her life to music education. She earned a Bachelors of Music at Mansfield State University in Mansfield, Pa. with a major in oboe and minor in strings and piano. She did graduate work at the State University of New Paltz and Potsdam Crane School of Music. She began her teaching career in Liberty, N.Y. in 1965, working for Sullivan County BOCES from 1965-1968, teaching in the Livingston Manor and Tri-Valley School districts. From 1969-1970, Mickie taught in the Tri-Valley School District in Grahamsville, N.Y. In 1972, she was hired by the Ellenville School District where she began a 27 year career. Mickie was a member of Music Educators National Conference, NYSSMA, Ulster County Music Educators Association, NYSUT, and the Ellenville Teachers Association. Mickie Harris loved teaching and being with her students, whom she helped be the best they could be. She'll also be remembered for her compassion and love of wildlife and animals. Burial will be in the Somerset Living Memorial Park, Somerset, at the convenience of family.
