Hartle, 101, of Meyersdale, died Dec. 6, 1998, at Meyersdale Medical Center. Born June 4, 1897, in Clearfield County. A son of the late John and Mary (Olinger) Hartle. Also preceded in death by his wife, the former Pearl A. Mimna; four brothers: Augustus, Vincent, Joseph and Christian, and four sisters: Helen Beezer, Celia Hughes, Margaret Hartle, and Sarah McKenzie. Survived by a daughter, Mary H. Neimiller, Meyersdale; three grandsons: Jon and his wife Margaret, Richard and David. World War I veteran of U.S. Army. He was in the 2nd battle of the Marne River in France. He was awarded the Purple Heart and was a POW in Germany for 9 months. He was to have received the Legion of Honor from France for heroism. A life member of American Legion Post 112, Meyersdale. First charter member of the Meyersdale Historical Society. Friends will be received from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at SS. Philip & James Catholic Church, Meyersdale, with the Rev. Donald W. Dusza, celebrant. Interment, Union Cemetery, Meyersdale. Military rites accorded by American Legion Post 112, and VFW Post 3504, Meyersdale. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Meyersdale Historical Society.
