Born July 30, 1920, in Brothersvalley Township, son of the late Dr. Guy N. and Edna (Walker) Hartman. Survived by wife of 50 years, former Evelyn Hillegass, and these children: Jane, wife of Don Frish, Okeechobee, Fla.; Sue, wife of Steve Sheridan, Kents Store, Va.; John, married to former Gwen Tataleba, Garrett RD 1, and Mary Ann, Berlin; also grandchildren, David and Louis Frish; Todd and Ryan Sheridan, and Ashley and Evan Hartman. Brother of Anna H. Hall, Potomac, Md. World War II Army Medical Evac veteran. Retired Brothersvalley Township dairy farmer. Served as interim Somerset County commissioner. Was a civil leader and member of Meyersdale Church of the Brethren, Berlin Historical Society, Meyersdale Rotary, Hillcrest Grange, Senior Extension, Meyersdale Lodge 554, F. & A.M.; Jaffa Temple Shrine, Altoona; Harrisburg Consistory, A.A.S.R.; Somerset County Shrine Club; Meyersdale American Legion Post 112, and VFW Post 7295, and Last Man's Club, both of Berlin. Served on Alumni Board of Bridgewater College, Va. Charter member of Somerset County Farmers Association. Former director on the boards of Scalp Level Church of the Brethren Home; National Bank of Western, Pa.; Berlin-Brothersvalley School board; Agway Cooperative Board, and Cooperative Extension Service executive committee of Somerset County. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyersdale Church of the Brethren, the Rev. Bryan G. Karchner. Interment, Union Cemetery, Meyersdale.
