Hartzell, 82, of Somerset, died March 9, 1999, at Patriot Manor. Born Nov. 22, 1916, in Rockwood. Son of David and Lena (Cook) Hartzell. Preceded in death by parents, first wife, the former Gladys Brown, and brother Arthur. Survived by wife, the former Mildred Ziegler; children James, married to Mildred Schmitt, Gibsonia, and Dan T., married to Mary Christine Vogler, Pittsburgh; grandson, Andrew Hartzell; step-children Lois Ann Charles, Winston-Salem, N.C., Sandra Miller, Lansdale, Fred Bean, Pittsburgh, and Althea Brown, Somerset; and step-grandchildren: Kelsey, Amanda and Alex Brown; Aaron and Caleb Miller; and Sara Charles. Brother of Aileene Moyer, Carlisle, and Mary Jane Stutzman, Somerset. Member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Somerset Volunteer Fire Dept. where he was a 60-year member and 39-year secretary, Western Pa. Firemen's Association, and the Somerset County Firemen's Association. U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Member of V.F.W. Post No. 554 and the American Legion in Somerset. He was tax collector for Somerset Borough for 28 years. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset. Family will receive friends from 10-11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ where a funeral service will immediately follow, Rev. Glenn Sadler officiating.
