Hartzell, 51, of Somerset died July 24, 1974 in Somerset Community Hospital. Born April 5, 1923 in Lincoln Township, a daughter of the late William and Bertha Sarver Brown. Also preceded in death by one sister, Goldie. Survived by her husband, Dan E. and two sons, James of Gibsonia and D. Timothy at home. A sister of Mrs. Grace Montgomery of Gray; Mrs. Charles (Leora) Hull of Riverside, Cal.; Mrs. Kenneth (Lola) McGuire of Warren, Mich.; and Melvin of Quecreek. She was a graduate of Somerset High School class of 1941 and was a graduate of the Nurses Training School of Chester General Hospital of Chester. She received her Registered Nurses License in 1946. She was office nurse for Dr. W. W. Westfall of Somerset and was staff nurse at Somerset Community Hospital where she served as a private duty nurse since 1949. She was a Red Cross Nurse since 1949, helping with the local Bloodmobile operation and serving as a Red Cross first aid instructor. She graduated from the State Ambulance Training Course and served as the nurse at the Roaring Run Boy Scout Camp for many years. Mrs. Hartzell was the six-county area coordinator of the American Cancer Society's Reach for Recovery Program. She was a member of the American Cancer Society, Somerset Registered Nurse's Association, Somerset Borough Firemen's Auxiliary and the Somerset County and Western Pennsylvania Firemen's Auxiliaries. She was also a member of the Somerset Church of the Brethren. She recently received the Benjamin Rush Award presented by the Pennsylvania Medical Society for outstanding health services. Friends will be received after 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wilbur D. Miller Funeral Home where services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul R. White and the Rev.
