Sherman Friend, aged 17, and his sister, Mabel, 13, who live near the lake, were fishing along the bank when they discovered the body, which was floating about four feet from the shore. The youth notified residents of the neighborhood, who summoned Garrett County authorities before the body was removed from the water. Although the body had been in the water more than three weeks, it was in fair condition, probably because of the low temperature of the lake, which is fed by mountain springs. There were no marks on the body and no indication that he had met with foul play, according to Garrett County officers, who said an inquest was not necessary. He was said to have been worried in recent months, because of ill health, and had been in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, for examination. Harvey appeared to be in good spirits when he left his home at 7 o'clock Friday morning, April 4, according to members of his family. He transacted business in Oakland later in the morning, and ate his luncheon with his brother, John Harvey, at the National Hotel in Grantsville. His abandoned car was found at 3:30 o'clock on the Norris Bridge, about ten miles from Oakland. Harvey was always considered a man of rugged health and steady nerve. He resided on Broadway, Frostburg, with his wife and three young sons, William, Jr., Robert and Allen. He also leaves five brothers and two sisters, John, Charles, Robert, Anthony and George Harvey of Frostburg and Mrs. Ernest McGregor, of Shaft, Md. William Harvey was born in Frostburg, in 1880, the son of Robert Harvey. He graduated from Beall High School, and the West Virginia University at Morgantown. For many years he was superintendent of construction of the Cumberland and Westernport Electric Railway and was County Surveyor of Allegany County for two years. He was appointed City Engineer in 1904 and intermittently had held office up to the time he disappeared. His term would have expired May 5. Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at his late home, with Rev. Lewis B. Browne, pastor of St. John's Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
