Hauger, one of the most prominent and prosperous farmers of Somerset County, passed away at his home in Brothersvalley Township early Sunday morning. He was born Sept. 23, 1856, and died July 10, 1943, aged 86 years, 9 months and 17 days. He was a native of Brothersvalley Township, the son of Simon and Roseanna Rauch Hauger. Early in life he married Priscilla Cober, daughter of Aaron Cober. To this union one daughter, Irma Mae, was born. She married Joseph W. Croner. After the death of his first wife, Mr. Hauger married the widow of John Gambert who also preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Jo Croner, and this brother and these sisters: Silas Hauger, Mrs. Elmer Rhodes, Mrs. W. J. Gumbert, and Mrs. Mary Smith, all of Brothersvalley Township, and these grandsons, John Wesley Croner, Harold Kimmel Croner, Earl Devon Croner, in the U.S. Army, and Richard Fae Croner, and two great-grandsons, Robert and Tommy Croner. Mr. Hauger served his community well. He was a member of the school board for twelve years. He was a lifelong member of the Pine Hill Lutheran Church. His pastor, Rev. Elwood L. Stahl, conducted the funeral services at the home of his daughter, Tuesday, at 2:30 p.m., with interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Berlin, in charge of Johnson and Sons.
