Born March 12, 1926 in Johnstown, a daughter of Henry Francis and Evelyn Amanda (Watt) Smith. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dr. Harold S. Hay, who died Nov. 29, 2001, and sister Joyce Dene Smith. Survived by these children: Joyce Mayer, Somerset, Janet Higgins of Somerset, Robert J. Mayer, married to the former Beth Urbain of Somerset, Mrs. James R. (Tish) Cascio of Somerset, Gretchen Mayer of Hyannisport, Mass.; stepchildren, Jeffrey Hay of Los Alamos, N.M., Amy Hay, wife of Hon. Lester Nauhaus of Pittsburgh, Chris S. Hay of Somerset and Tina Hay of State College; grandchildren, Jamie Higgins, Jimmy Mayer, Kelly Mayer, Michael Cascio, Scott Mayer, Jon Brant and Mia Cascio; stepgrandchildren, Elizabeth Cascio, Beth Dolan and Nathan Weimer. Member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. A 1944 graduate of Johnstown High School, and 1947 graduate of Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Retired Registered Nurse. Past President of Somerset Garden Club, past president of the Conemaugh Memorial Hospital Alumni Association, past president of Somerset Hospital Auxiliary, past president of St. Peter's Altar Society and past president of Somerset Welfare League. Friends received from 2 to 4 an 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hauger-Ziegler Funeral Home, Somerset, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Funeral Mass will be conducted 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Somerset. Monsignor Samuel J. Tomaselli celebrant. Private Committal, Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum.
