Hay, 90, went to be with the Lord April 28, 2006. Born in Brothersvalley Township, June 9, 1915, he was the oldest son of Ralph H. and ClaraB. Hay. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers , Carl A. Hay, John Edward Hay, and a sister, Eleanor. He was married to the love is life, Mabel B. Hay, for nearly 50 years, until her death in 1987. He is survived by his younger brother, James R. Hay, Mendicino, Calif.; daughters, Marilyn Benning Albright, wife of James Albright, Coal Run; and Donna Raupach, wife of James Raupach, Glencoe. He had nine grand-children, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren who he greatly enjoyed throughout his life. Donald was a Pa. State Policeman in his early life, and was part of the famous Hershey Police Academy. He was part of the horse patrol and performed in the horse shows there. In 1942, he purchased a farm just a few miles from Berlin along Cumberland Highway, where he raised his family. His wife, Mabel taught many years in the Berlin School District. Donald entered back into public service as First Deputy of Sheriff Norman Walker. He retired from the public service as the Sheriff of Somerset County. He never missed a church service at Hay's Church (Mount Zion United Church of Christ) unless he was ill. One of the greatest joys of his life was serving his church and his Lord in many ways throughout his life. The Masonic Organization was also a part of his life, having served the organization in various positions for 50 years. He was a member of the Meyersdale Masonic Lodge. Community Service was a big part of his life and his death, having given his body to research to perhaps help someone else. Memorials may be sent to Hay's Church in care of Emma Jean Engle, 744 Hays Mill Road, Meyersdale, PA 15552, or the Meyersdale Medical Center, in care of Alma Lauver, 426 Beachley St., Meyersdale, PA 15552. There will be a memorial service held at 2 p.m. June 11 Hay's Church to celebrate his life here on earth.
