Born March 26, 1916, Quecreek, son of John Earl and Hattie Matilda (Tipton) Hay. Preceded in death by parents; and sister, Bernice Dixon. Survived by wife, the former Emma Shafer, to whom he was married 69 years; daughter, Emma Lou Keene, Indiana; granddaughters, Deborah Walker and husband, Christopher, Dayton, Ohio; Elizabeth McCloud and husband, Jeffrey, Elizabethtown; great-grandsons, Nathaniel and Maxwell McCloud; and sister, Alice "Kitty" Stutzman, Levittown. George was a 1934 graduate of Somerset High School, a graduate of Ross Leffler School of Conservation, received a BS degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he was also inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2000 and a Master's Degree in guidance counseling from Penn State University. He spent four years in the Navy during World War II, He was a member of the VFW. He was an ardent trapper and outdoorsman and spent 10 years as a game protector with the PA Game Commission, and was one of Pennsylvania's top 10trappers. Also a member of Lodge 674 F&AM in Coraopolis. He worked as a guidance counselor for North Star High School retiring in 1984. He was a member of St.Paul's Presbyterian Church where he served on the session. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Somerset. The Rev. Keith M. Fink and the Rev. Roger Forry officiating. Interment Casebeer Cemetery.
