HAY Judge Hay Killed by Car in Calif. Was New Mexico Jurist and Son of W.J.R. Hay of This County Judge George W. Hay, 52, of Silver City, N.M., a son of former County Commissioner and Mrs. W.J.R. Hay, was struck by an automobile and instantly killed on Jan. 7, while crossing a street, just outside the city limits of Altadena, California. Judge and Mrs. Hay went to Altadena last month for a visit and were staying at an automobile court near the scene of the accident. George W. Hay was born in this county and attended the public schools in Jefferson Township, later graduating from Valpariso College, Indiana. During the World War he served in the A.E.F. overseas, and after returning from the war located in New Mexico. Within a few years he became a judge in the Sixth Judicial District of that state, a position he had since held. Surviving are his parents, his wife, Cecilia (Jenkins) Hay of Oniel, Nebr., and the following brothers and sisters: Oscar Hay of Bayard, Nebr.; James Oliver Hay of Milford Township; Mrs. Clark Stahl of Somerset; Mrs. Sherman Berkley of Berlin; Mrs. R. A. Weimer of Milford Township and Mrs. Robert Coleman of Somerset. Word of his death was received by members of the family by telegram Wednesday morning, Jan. 8. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.J.R. Hay, and other members of the family left on Thursday morning by train for Silver City, N.M., to which city the body has been removed, and, where funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, after which Judge Hay's body was brought to Somerset County for interment.
