Born July 27, 1923, in Brothersvalley Township, son of Ralph and Clara (Broesecker) Hay. Preceded in death by parents; his wife of 35 years, the former Dorothy Grandahl, who died in 1982; sister, Eleanor; and brother, Carl. Survived by these children: Kathryn, married to Keith Grimm, Larry, married to the former Gale Romesberg, Dennis, married to the former Cheryl Cotler, and Mayla, married to Mark "Pete" Yoder, all of Berlin; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Brother of: Donald W., Berlin; and James R., Mendocino, Calif. Also beloved companion, Jane Young. Retired farmer and former owner of Modern Dairy. C.E.O. and board secretary of Highland Mutual Insurance Co., until his retirement in 1990. Member of Berlin Trinity United Church of Christ, where he served as an elder and participated in the choir. Past member of Hay's United Church of Christ. He was a Second Lt. in the Army Air Corp during World War II, having piloted B-24s. He was a former member and past president of Berlin Lion's Club, served as state director and president of Pa. Assoc. of Mutual Insurance Companies. He sang in the Berlin Community Choir. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Viewing at Hay's (Mt. Zion) United Church of Christ from 1 p.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Carl W. Schwarm officiating. Interment, Hay's Church Cemetery. Graveside military services by Berlin V.F.W. and the American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity U.C.C. steeple fund or Hay's U.C.C. building fund.
