Hay, 68, of Berlin RD 3, died Feb. 20, 1983, at Somerset Community Hospital. She was born Feb. 28, 1914, in McHenry, Maryland, daughter of Joseph B. and Ellen Jane (Bender) Ash. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Robert, Charles and Homer Ash, and sisters, Martha Diehl and Anna Opel. She is survived by her husband, John Engle Hay, and these children: Harold of Berlin RD 3; Mrs. John (Dorothy) Watkins of Berlin; Mrs. Neil (Ruth) Brant, Mt. Holly, NJ; and Mrs. William (Sandra) Thompson, Middletown, Md.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Sweitzer, Swanton, Md.; and Mrs. Hulda Thornburg of South Carolina. She was a member of the First Brethren Church of Berlin, Women's Missionary Society, Valley Grange 878. She was a 4-H leader for many years and was active in community affairs. Friends were received at the Johnson-Kuhlman Funeral Home, Berlin, where services were held with the Rev. Ralph E. Mills and the Rev. Charles W. Sigler officiating. Interment, Berlin IOOF Cemetery.
