He had been sick only since last Thursday. Mr. Hay was 82 years old, having been born March 23, 1863. He was born and reared on a farm and was engaged in farm work his entire active life. He operated a farm of his own for some years, but never having married, he made his home with his elder brother, Sylvester, on the latter's farm, now the farm of Edison M. Hay, until the death of Sylvester some years ago, after which he continued to live with his brother's widow until her death several years ago. Miss Lulu Knepper then became his housekeeper in the home in which he had lived for so many years, and in which he passed away. During all the years that he lived with his brother and the latter's widow, Mr. Hay helped with the farm work on what is now the Edison M. Hay farm. He was a good worker and a kind and cheerful man, a friend of all who knew him. Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Lewis Berkley, and a number of nephews and nieces. He was a lifelong and faithful member of the Hay Reformed Church, where funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, by his pastor, Rev. F. D. Witmer. His body was laid to rest in the church cemetery where the remains of many of his Hay relatives repose. The funeral and burial arrangements were in charge of W. C. Price & Son.
