Born April 5, 1939, in Bradford, the son of Gilbert Carlton and Leona Lucille (Eschrich) Hedlund. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Josephine Dixon; and grandson, Devon Michael Loomis. Survived by wife, the former Virginia Ann Gee, to whom he was married 47 years; children, John Hedlund, married to the former Cathy Tobin, Wheatfield, N.Y.; Mrs. Kenneth (Jodi) Loomis, Sugar Grove; Jay Hedlund, married to the former Dawn Thompson, Danville; Jed Hedlund, Strongsville, Ohio; Mrs. Alfonso (Juleen) McDowell, Fayetteville, N.C.; and Mrs. Brian (Jenifer) Neuhoff, Jenners; 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Also survived by half brother, Gregory Hedlund, South Dakota; half sisters, Mrs. Tammy Black and Miss Mary Kay Hedlund, both of Lewis Run. A 1958 graduate of Bradford Area High School. A veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard, and worked as a supervisor until his retirement in 1998 at the Warren State Hospital and later SCI-Laurel Highlands with 21 years of service. He was also a licensed truck driver and had worked for Werner and Bowman Trucking. After his retirement, he drove school bus for STA. And became a licensed minister, studying at Susquehanna Valley Ministry Center in Elizabethtown. Also a member of Pike Run Church of the Brethren. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where a service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Brian N. Simmons officiating.
