Heffley, 78, senior physician of Berlin, died Sunday, May 8, 1949, at his home on Main Street. He was born in Berlin June 29, 1871, the son of Daniel and Sarah Conrad Heffley and was the last surviving member of his family. On Oct. 1, 1902, he married Miss Geneva Height, who survives. Dr. Heffley, who was well known and respected throughout the County, was an honorary member of the Somerset County Medical Society and of the Penna. State Medical Society, which a year ago presented him with a testimonial plaque in honor of 50 years of medical service to the community. He was a graduate of Pittsburgh College of Pharmacy class of 1893, and acted as pharmacist in Long Island City College for two years. He also was graduated from the Medico- Chirurigi Cal College of Philadelphia in 1898, and practiced general medicine in Berlin from 1898 to 1914. He was a graduate of the New York Institute of Optometry and followed the practice of Optometry in Berlin until his death. He was a devoted member of Berlin Lutheran Church and of I.O.O.F. lodge. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 11, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robert S. Nagle, assisted by the Rev. H. B. Burkholder, officiating. Services in the Johnson Funeral Home followed by interment in Berlin cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, May 12, 1949
