The son of George and Neva Barron Heiple, he was born Oct. 10, 1913, in Somerset. Member of Zion Lutheran Church while residing in Indiana and recently was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church of Richmond. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Member and past commander of the American Legion Post 493 in Homer City and Indiana County commander. For many years, he was store manager for the coal mining company's Mahoning Stores in Waterman and Ernest. Then he worked as auditor for the Pennsylvania State Auditor General until his retirement. Surviving are his daughter, Virginia Heiple Manner of Chesterfield, Va.; two brothers: Wesley of Arlington, Va., and Emmett of Lakeland, Fla; a sister, LaVera Heiple of Somerset; three grandchildren: Randy of Alexandria, Va.; Kimberly Manner-Apel of Midlothian, Va., and Timothy of Luray, Va.; four great-grandchildren: Gene, Jamie, Lauren and Katie. Preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Friedline Heiple, with whom he celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 20, 1983; two brothers, Larry and Gene Heiple; a sister, Elizabeth Younkin. Friends will be received Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., the time of services, at the Renee-Mihaleik Funeral Home in Indiana. Pastor Lawrence Ruegg will officiate. Interment, Oakland Cemetery, Indiana. The family requests memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 879 Hospital Road, Indiana, Pa. 15701 or to the American Heart Association, 400 Luray Ave., Johnstown, Pa. 15904.
