Hospital, Altoona. Born July 24, 1909, in St. Benedict, Pa. Son of the late Saul Curtis and Annie (Kellock) Heist. Also preceded in death by brothers: Saul C. Heist Jr., and Alexander Heist and one sister Merwilla Heist. Survived by his wife, the former Verdamae Kimmel, to whom he was married for 65 years, and these children: Mrs. Harold W. (Germaine) Ankeny of Somerset; William L. Heist, married to the former Mary Maurer, of Nampa, Idaho and James G. Heist of Portland, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Brother of Mrs. Lillian McCliment of Livonia, Mich., Mrs. Myrtle Suitt of Cheboygan, Mich., William Heist of Clawson, Mich., Archie Heist of Redford, Mich., and Merwillis Heist of Sturgeon Bay, Wis. Retired Chief Warrant Officer, U.S. Navy with 30 years of service, retiring in 1955. Attended Somerset Twp. Schools and Submarine School in New London, Conn. Member of Christ Casebeer Lutheran Church. Life member of Three Rivers Chapter of the Submarine Veterans of WWII, VFW Post 2306 Beloit, Wis., Life Member of Retired Officers Association, and Life Member of Fleet Reserve Association. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 Monday, at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Christ Casebeer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dwight A.
