Born Sept. 25, 1921, in Barnesboro, son of the late Ruben and Martha (Hoffman) Heist. Preceded in death by brother, Walter and sister, Helen Smoker. Survived by wife, the former Dorothy Zeigler; son, John, Somerset; daughters: Ruby, married to Sheldon Crane, Scarboro, Ontario, Canada; and Patricia Gonchar, Beaver Falls. Also six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Brother of: Mrs. Paul (Mildred) DeHaven, Scottdale; Charles, Friedens RD 2; John, Somerset RD 4; Clark, Somerset; and Richard, Alexandria, Va. Veteran of World War II, where he was an Army engineer in the European Theater. Member of Carpenter's Local 2274 for 43 years. Retired coal miner and construction worker. Member of the Ambridge Sportsmen's Club. Friends will be received Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Wilbur D. Miller Funeral Home, Somerset, where funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David Gregorian officiating. Interment, Brotherton Cemetery. Daily American, January 10, 1998 [H0742]
