He was born Dec. 24, 1898, in Freeland, son of the late Andrew and Mary (Oravitz) Hercula. Also preceded in death by a son, Sgt. Andrew, who was killed at Iwo Jima in World War II, and a daughter, Ethel Cetnar; also two sisters. He is survived by his wife, the former Anna Chonko; and these children: Mrs. Robert (Anna) Stuart, Himrod, N.Y.; George, David and Mrs. Kenneth (Judy) Wojcik, all of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Coberly, Wheeling, W.Va., and Mrs. Mary Kormos, Newton Falls, Ohio; one brother, Michael of Altoona; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was a retired miner and member of St. Gregory's Church, Macdonaldton, and the Pennsylvania Slovak Union. Friends were received at the Johnson-Kuhlman Funeral Home, Berlin, Mass of Christian Burial, was held at St. Gregory's Church, with the Rev. Father Samuel Tomaselli celebrant. Interment, Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Detroit, Mich. Wake service was held at the funeral home.
