Born Nov. 30, 1907 in East River Township, Iowa, he is the son of the late Kemp Goodlow and Retta May (Hiatt) Herren. Also preceded in death by his first wife, Lydia Lee Reidlinger, grandson, Dana Herren and sisters, Zetta Noble, Holly Clark and Ruby McNutt. Survived by children Joyce Swan of Lakeside, Calif., John Herren of Council Bluffs, Iowa, James E. Herren of Glassport and Marvin L. Herren of Dravosburg. Twelve grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Member of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #66, which he joined Aug. 20, 1937. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. After his first wife, Lydia died, he maintained his home in New Market, Iowa and the following year moved to Pennsylvania to find work. In 1938 he met and married Marie Johnson and to this union a son James Edward was born. Mr. Herren moved to Somerset in the early 1980s where he resided at Bishop's Trailer Court and for the last several months was a resident of Patriot Manor. Friends received from noon until the time of service at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, Somerset. Rev. Russell B. Kessler will officiate.
