HERSH Agnes Elizabeth (Byer) Hersh, formerly of Piedmont Avenue and Greene Street, Cumberland, Md., died Monday, May 13, 1996, at Meyersdale Manor Nursing Home. Born Nov. 15, 1909, in Beryl, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Rose (Foley) Byer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James A. Hersh (whose family formerly resided in Meyersdale), in 1967; and her brother, Harry Byer. A 1928 graduate of Allegany High School and Catherman's Business School, she was formerly employed as credit manager at Rosenbaum's Department Store. She also held positions at First National Bank, the Manhattan Shop and the Monarch Printing Co. Active in community and social affairs, Mrs. Hersh was a charter member of the Women's Sport Club, having served as president as well as various other offices. She was a former member of the Soroptomist Club. She was also a member of the "RB" Club. Survivors include her sisters-in-law, Jane Byer, Delaware; Shirley Hersh, Cresaptown; and Martha Werner, with whom she resided; two brothers-in-law, William Hersh and wife, Virginia, of Rawlings; John Hersh, Cumberland; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday. Services will be conducted in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, with the Rev. Lloyd McCanna officiating. Interment, Hillcrest Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
